Walk this way- Join the Galway Camino walk for second annual event
September 22 @ 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm
After a successful first year which saw close to 100 people taking part in the inaugural Galway Camino pilgrim walk last September, the Galway Camino Walk is back on Saturday 22nd September. Kicking off from 12 noon from Galway Cathedral, The walk will take in seven holy sites around Galway city. The Galway Camino Pilgrim walk has been organised by the Knights of Columbanus.
Beginning at Galway Cathedral the pilgrim walk will take in seven of Galway’s Holy sites including The Poor Clares Convent in Nuns Island, St Nicholas Church, Franciscan Abbey, Augustinian Church, Dominican Claddagh and St Joseph’s Church.
Each pilgrim will receive a Galway Camino booklet which is to be stamped at each site. Upon returning to Galway Cathedral, with all seven stamps, a Galway Camino Certificate of Completion will be given.
The Galway Camino registration office will be open at Galway Cathedral from 12 noon.
Walkers can start whenever they wish provided they return to Galway Cathedral at 5.30 pm at the latest. Estimated duration of walk is 2 hours (+ any time spent at each site) and the booklet supplied will contain the relevant map.
“We were delighted with the turnout and the feedback from last year’s walk. It was such a sociable afternoon and so many people from Galway came and had in fact not actually visited a couple of the sites before. This is a great opportunity for anyone and everyone to come together to walk through Galway and visit some of our well known holy sites. Each walker will get a certificate to showcase they have visited all sites and we are hoping to see hundreds taking part on the day,” explained Knights of Columbanus Grand Knight Gerry Ford.
