The School Days of Thaddeus K
October 31, 2018 - November 10, 2018
Premiering at The Factory Performance Space, Sligo, this October/November, The School Days of Thaddeus K is a new devised piece of theatre by the outstanding Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, inspired by experiences in a national school in the west of Ireland during the 1970s.
Told with the use of movement, text and scaled puppetry, the story follows Thaddeus and his struggles with the teachers in the school, his difficulties in understanding what he is doing there in the first place, his imprisonment and ultimately his escape.
A dark gothic view of school days in 1970s Ireland.
The School Days of Thaddeus K features work from long time collaborators writer and dramaturg Jocelyn Clarke (Shackleton, First Cosmonaut, Flann O’Brien Trilogy) and designer Jamie Vartan (The Last Hotel, The Walworth Farce, Ballyturk) along with acclaimed Blue Raincoat ensemble members Sandra O Malley, John Carty, Brian Devaney, Hilary Bowen Walsh and Miriam Needham. Sound Design is by Joe Hunt with Lighting Design by Barry McKinney.
Ireland’s longest running theatre ensemble Blue Raincoat are synonymous with a range of theatre styles from the absurd worlds of Lewis Carroll and Flann O’Brien to the more expressionistic worlds of their devised work Shackleton and First Cosmonaut. The company have engaged thousands of people over the years having founded and co-founded an arts festival, a youth theatre, a children’s theatre festival, a theatre academy, along with their venue, the Factory Performance Space.
