Shoppers will take delight in the many artisan, and boutique shops, which sit alongside the larger names and high street stores.  From high end and high fashion, to affordable and quirky the choices here are many.

Sourcing locally produced quality foods at farmers markets is a very enjoyable way to while away some time and then when you’ve shopped till you dropped, take refuge in a coffee shop or restaurant.  There is vast array of options for dining out, from cheap and cheerful to award winning cuisine.  And with the fun of the world-famous Oyster Festival you can enjoy sampling fresh, quality local seafood perhaps washed down with some Guinness.

Our communities tend to be smaller and tightly knit with community activities often acting as a central hub around which people gather. Community spirit is alive and well in the Western region.  Events and festivals pepper every month of the year here and many of them are free of charge. They focus on everything from kids to over 55’s, from traditional music, contemporary music, dance and literature.

Living in the West of Ireland can be as peaceful or dynamic as you decide to make it!
