Property is cheaper so mortgages in the Western region are lower, childcare costs are more affordable and your Euro goes further on other essentials such as everyday groceries.

  • The average price of a new property in the West of Ireland ranges from €242,000 in Galway City to €154,000 in Co Roscommon. In Dublin City it is €306,000.
  • Average childcare costs outside of Dublin are €144 per week, compared to €192 per week in Dublin
  • The Average weekly grocery shop outside Dublin is 14% cheaper according to CSO figures.

food and drinkDepending on the sector, salaries in the West can sometimes be lower than Dublin salaries for comparable roles.  However, the cost base in the West is cheaper and there are multiple lifestyle benefits associated with living in the West of Ireland. 

Statistics show that food and drink is cheaper than in Dublin – a pack of best back rashers for a Sunday morning fry-up is 24% cheaper and a 10kg bag of potatoes is over 6% cheaper, even a pint of stout costs 9% less. Visiting the hairdresser saves you money, a ladies wash, cut and blow dry works out 23% less expensive while men can save an incredible 47% on their short, back and sides.
