The Western Development Commission (WDC) has secured European Union (EU) funding of €1 million to develop the wood energy sector in the Western Region. Tonn Energy, a joint venture between Irish ocean energy company Wavebob and Swedish electricity utility Vattenfall, will receive grant assistance for the development of the world’s first fully commercial ocean energy generator. Power of One Street was created as a real-life Energy Makeover Challenge which took place in 13 ordinary Irish households, a school and a GAA club in 2007 and 2008.
