... A Brighter View on 2010

2009 was a undoubtedly a tough year for many, coupled with bad weather, flooding, the coldest Winter in many many years it is easy for us to weigh ourselves down with bad news.  Taking our cue from the recent "Good News Friday" we have dedicated this month's e-zine to a roundup of positive and encouraging news from our readers around the region.

Not to gloss over the negative, but rather to provide evidence that there are still good news stories happening and to build on the positive sentiment.

The Model unveils a world-class programme for Sligo in 2010

One of the most anticipated Sligo events for the coming year is the re-opening of The Model, home of The Niland Collection. Closed for a major redevelopment since early 2008 the centre has been much missed, but the works will be worth the wait. With over 70 people currently employed on site, The Model is being transformed into a world-class visitor attraction with museum standard galleries, a purpose build performance space, a new destination restaurant, and nine stunning artist studios with panoramic views of Sligo. >> Read more

Galway Company Crospon Spins Out New Company

Galway medical device developer Crospon has spun out a new company, Janisys, to focus on the development of a drug-delivery platform that uses HP’s inkjet printing technology to enable painless, controlled drug release from a patch to the skin.

The new spinout is at a late stage in developing functional prototypes of its active microneedle-based transdermal system and intends to begin pre-clinical trials in 2010. >> Read more

West Mayo Farmers launch "Lamb Direct"

Eight local sheep farmers from the Tourmakeady and Westport areas have come together to launch an exciting new venture, selling quality lamb direct to the consumer.

The group have come together in response to declining returns from their lambs sold through the traditional sales chanels and a desire to supply locally-reared lamb to the local community.  >> Read more

All Ireland Talent Show on RTÉ 1
