Donegal shines on the streets of Dublin

The people of Donegal decided to bring the mountain to Mohammad this May, when up to 25,000 people visited Donegal Live on the streets of Temple Bar, Dublin.

Live music, song and dance were the order of the day from, with Ceili and Set Dancing with dance groups from across the county inviting people to join in their steps and soak up the atmosphere. Artists including Moya Brennan (Clannad), The Plea, Mickey Jo Harte, The Henry Girls, Donegal Tenors, Donegal Youth Orchestra, Aoife Ni Fhearraigh, Maria McCool, The Roots Orchestra, An Crann Óg, Fidil, Aine O Doherty & Friends entertained thousands in Meeting House Square and Altan brought special guest Paul Brady along to perform his world renowned ‘Homes of Donegal’.

Up to twenty tourism sectors showcased their products and services on Curved Street with many stands bringing samples and props to give a true insight to the realms of the County. The exhibition of the many attractions, activities, events and hospitality options that County Donegal has to offer included Equestrian, Golf Clubs, Adventure Sports, Attractions, Islands, Gaeltacht & Irish Colleges, Self Catering, Hotels, B&B, Marine Tourism/Angling, Tour Donegal, Festivals, Events & Theatre, Hill Walking, Retail, Guesthouse, Getting to Donegal.

There was fun for all ages throughout Temple Bar with fire juggling, face painting, balloon modelling and familiar characters for all ages.

A Donegal Literary Programme, ran in New Theatre where visitors enjoyed extracts by the Lifford Players from Brian Friel’s Philadelphia Here I Come and Faith Healer, Patrick MacGill’s Children of the Dead Sea and Frank McGuinness’ – Someone to Watch Over Me.

Some fantastic prizes were also on offer including 1,000 free bed nights in Donegal courtesy of the Hotels Federation and 1,000 return coach tickets courtesy of John McGinley coaches. Aer Arann and Donegal airport gave away a number of return flights on the Dublin – Donegal route and these were packaged with various accommodation and activities sponsored by the participating tourism providers.
