We're delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for this year’s Nokia Digital Media Awards. The Awards, now in their 10th year, celebrate and showcase excellence within the digital media sector in Ireland. has been shortlisted in the ‘Government to Consumer Innovation’ category. The winners will be announced at the Nokia Digital Media Awards ceremony which will take place on March 30th, 2012 at the Convention Centre in Dublin.

Winners will be selected by a panel of industry experts. The Nokia Digital Media Awards judges are drawn from the interactive media industry, including professionals specializing in media, gaming, design, digital marketing, telecommunications, and app development.

Why do we use social media?, first launched in 2004, promotes the West as an attractive and economically-advantageous location for enterprise and is the definitive guide to living, working and doing business in Ireland’s Western Region.  In recent years, social media engagement has become a key part of the organisations online activities and now engages daily with thousands of people across all social media channels to promote the benefits of the Western Region.

The social media drive has featured two high profile photography competitions including last year’s ‘MySummer’ photo campaign, which sought creative and nostalgic photographs of summer moments taken in the Western Region.   Last winter, also launched the ‘7 Wonders of the West’ campaign to create a publicly voted list of the Region’s favourite places, events and things to do.

Our social media activities have really helped to bring the work that we do to life and the level of ongoing audience engagement is extremely encouraging. By using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, we can gather feedback from people, drive engagement with campaigns and facilitate networking among people who are interested in living, working or doing business in the West.

"We're delighted the community continues to grow; we now have 4,718 Facebook fans, 2,271 followers on Twitter and 842 members in the LinkedIn group, while videos featuring interviews with people who have relocated to the West or who have set up businesses there are popular on YouTube."

Other finalists in the Government to Consumer category include the Dublin Airport Authority, Mayo Co. Council, Ordnance Survey and the Road Safety Authority.
