RDS National Crafts Exhibition comes to Mayo There are two new temporary exhibitions about to open at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life at Turlough Park. New exhibitions at Museum of Country Life. Each year the RDS, in association with the Crafts Council of Ireland, holds a National Crafts Competition and then displays the prize-winning entries at the Fáilte Ireland Dublin Horse Show. The exhibition then travels to other venues. Now in its 42nd year this Exhibition is a major event in the Irish crafts calendar. Those selected to exhibit include professional and amateur designers who have competed for prestigious RDS awards across 20 categories ranging from furniture design and ceramics to calligraphy and jewellery design. The exhibition will continue at Turlough Park until 15th October. Meanwhile Off The Boat, another temporary exhibition, features the work of French artist Francois Gunning and is now on display in the Museum Café. There are ten works in the exhibition, each made from, or using, materials gathered from the sea-shore. They comprise paintings on wreckage, mosaics of sea shells, and nettings and ropes woven together. The exhibition runs from 3rd August until 12th September. (Courtesy of MayoToday.ie) |
