Sligo Library Service is hosting a free family fun day called Summer Scope on Saturday 11th June. The event will launch their new outdoor area beside Sligo Central Library on Stephen Street in Sligo town and all are welcome for music, magic, face painting and storytelling. Perfect for families, the day will kick off at 12noon and run all afternoon until 4pm, right in the heart of Sligo town. MC’d by Robert Fitzpatrick, there will be staged performances from local musician Wayne O’Connor, Donegal storyteller Ted Hall, the fantastic Nemo le Magician and the rousing Gmiley and the Soul Street Orchestra. With free face painting available all day, and coffee and treats on hand from Monster Café there’s something for everyone. Sligo Library is a great resource for reading and borrowing books free of charge, and provides free access to the In ternet for members. The Library Service aims to foster reading, stimulate the imagination and contribute to lifelong learning and cultural recreation. The Summer Scope event combines all these things into one great afternoon, and the library itself will also be open on the day, as it is every Saturday (excluding Bank Holiday weekends), if people want to join up on the day. Musical per formers on Saturday include the wonderful local singer songwriter Wayne O’Connor and the rousing Gmiley and the Soul Street Orchestra, who are sure to bring that summer groove to Stephen Street. They’ll be joined on the programme by the storyteller Ted Hall and the terrific Nemo le Magician who’ll bring his unique medieval storytelling and magic show; Magie Médiévale to the Library stage.
Please note that this is an outdoor, but tented, event, so please dress for the weather on the day. Gates open at 12noon and close at 4.30pm and entry is free of charge. Sligo Library will be open as usual, from 9.30am. Story adapted from sligolibrary.ie
