DUBLIN’S Temple Bar will come alive with a celebration of all things Mayo this month in a unique initiative that is the brainchild of the Mayo Association in Dublin.
Mayo Alive is a one-day, free event that will be held on Sunday, June 19, from 12 noon to 6pm. Headlined by the legendary Saw Doctors and Tommy Fleming, it will feature the beauty, culture, adventure, music and food of Co Mayo. It is expected that over 25,000 people will attend and enjoy a taste of Mayo life in six iconic Dublin locations.
Seán Reid of the Mayo Association of Dublin, who is organising the event, said: “Mayo Alive will be a unique opportunity for us to showcase the very best of Co Mayo to a huge audience and attract tourists and business to the region.”
Visitors to Mayo Alive can enjoy interactive workshops, musical performances, literary and poetry readings, a family picnic, experimental fishing competitions, a Gráinne Mhaol-inspired pirate treasure hunt and chances to chat with some of Mayo’s most famous people.
Leading hotel, adventure groups, artisan food producers and cultural venues will showcase the region with information, performance and exhibitions.
The six city centre locations are the DCC Amphitheatre, the Smock Alley Outdoor Stage, the Exchange on Temple Bar, Wood Quay, the Grounds of Christ Church Cathedral and Darkey Kelly’s. For more information click here. Story from Westernpeople.com
