Mayo Worldwide Associations ConventionAfter a hectic fortnight on the world stage, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will keep home fires burning this weekend when he takes part in a worldwide convention aiming to boost business in Co. Mayo.

The eleventh Mayo Associations Worldwide Convention will see exiles come home from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Toronto, London, Manchester, Leeds, Luton, Calderdale (UK), Coventry, and Australia,.

They will be joined by members of Mayo Associations based in Galway, Dublin, Sligo and Limerick. Mr Kenny will be the guest of honour at Saturday night’s gala dinner.

The convention, which takes place in Hotel Westport, will follow the theme of ‘Power by Land and Sea – a Future for our People’, and will facilitate debate on prospects for Mayo, and the country as a whole, in the renewable energy sector.

Said Seán Reid, chairperson of the organising committee: “The convention’s theme has been selected to promote public discourse about an area that has huge potential for Mayo and Ireland, and hopefully some interesting and valuable proposals will emerge.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Mayo people from all over the world.”

It will kick off on Friday evening when Westport Town Council chairperson Cllr Teresa McGuire accords the convention a civic reception.
