Year of Craft 2011 in the Western Region

This May there is a wide range of craft events, from talks and workshops to exhibitions and festivals, taking place all over Ireland in celebration of the Year of Craft 2011.

You will be spoiled for choice this May with an abundance of craft events taking place all over the country. Here are just a few of the many highlights:

EXHIBITIONS
Craft in the Cottage is an exhibition of textile craft and silk paintings. There will also be classes in home baking in a rural setting in Glen Lower Studio, Ramelton, Co Donegal which is open from 12.30am to 5pm every day throughout May.

Karen O’Kane of Kokodesigns, Donegal, is having an exhibition of silk paintings in the Workhouse, Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal.The exhibition will be open from the 19th April until the 31st May - open every day.Year of Craft

WORKSHOPS
There will be two great workshops held in the Leitrim Sculpture Centre, Manorhamilton on the 21st - 22nd May. Metal Fabrication Workshop is an intensive two day tuition in metalwork with a particular focus on welding, cutting and metal fabrication, and Woodturning Workshop, a traditional woodturning workshop by David Spence.

Also from the 21st-22nd May, there will be an Irish Crochet/Clones Lace workshop with Maire Treanor, a two-day workshop in Heather Rise House, Co. Mayo.

EVENTS
Féile na Tuaithe which will be held in Mayo,Turlough Park is a free family festival at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. There will be craft and food stands, craft demonstrations, music, and lots more for the family to enjoy
