The Robert John Kane Energy Symposium 2011: A Greener Future and Job Creation The Robert John Kane Energy Symposium will take place on the 27th - 29th of April 2011, in the Ramada Hotel, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim. The Drumshanbo Forum Ltd. is hosting the symposium to highlight the importance of future energy development in Ireland's rural areas, and to contribute to its ongoing growth. Rather than simply being a series of theoretical seminars, this symposium acts as the first part of a three-stage programme. It intends to take ideas beyond the discussion panel, implementing them directly in Drumshanbo and surrounding areas. It will have lasting benefits for the environment and local population, through the further development of renewable energy sources and the creation of new jobs. The symposium has the support of the ESB, who share the commitment to growth in the field of sustainable energy. The Drumshanbo Forum Ltd. is an association for the rejuvenation of economic activity in Drumshanbo Town. Sir Robert John Kane (1809-1890) was the author of important scientific and economic studies of Ireland's natural resources. He was commissioned by the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) to conduct what turned out to be the world's first energy cost benefit analysis, first published in 1844.
