The Board of the Mayo Sports Partnership is to shortly announce details of its upcoming Special Participation Grant Scheme for 2011. This scheme invites clubs / organizations / community groups to submit proposals which would target increasing participation amongst target groups such as children, youth at risk, women, traveling community, disadvantaged communities, disabilities, unemployed and ethnic minorities. Successful initiatives could include the setting up of new clubs or adding additional activities to existing clubs such as a girls section.

Initiatives which received funding under previous years scheme included an adventure sports initiative in the Swinford area, new basketball club in Ballycastle, table tennis on Clare Island, sports equipment for the Ballyhaunis multi use games area and start up assistance to Mayo Shore Angling Club.

Unfortunately due to cutbacks the amount allocated to the scheme from the Irish Sports Council is not as much as previous years. The maximum amount which can be allocated to any one project is € 1,000 and capital ie building projects are not eligible. The Mayo Sports Partnership board will decide on all successful applications and its recommendations are final.

A funding workshop on the scheme will take place on Monday 28th March at 8pm in the Mayo Education Centre ( At rear of the GMIT Castlebar ), Old Westport Rd, Castlebar.

To book your place for the workshop or to find out further information on the scheme contact the Sports Partnership office at 094-9047025.
