2011 TRADE Residency
TRADE is a collaborative visual arts programme between Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils providing knowledge, resources and opportunities for visual artists to engage internationally. Rather than considering ‘rural’ as ‘isolationary’, TRADE emphasises that art is a global construct and encourages a freeflow of ideas and opportunities both for local artists to engage internationally as well as for international artists to participate locally. Since 2006, TRADE consists of two elements – a residential programme and a seminar event. Under our previous residential programmes, artists Alfredo Jaar, Rebecca Fortnum, Darren Almond and John Gibbons each worked with a group of artists from the two counties over the course of a year. The outcomes of which were presented at the TRADE seminar which followed each. Roscommon and Leitrim County Council Arts Offices are now seeking interest from four visual artists, two from Leitrim and two from Roscommon who would like to work with New York based artist David Michalek for a 20-day period from the end March until December 2011. Local artists are now invited to complete an application form detailing their interest in this programme and any potential it may have for their practice. The residency will be based in the Dock, Carrick on Shannon. The residency will last a total of 20 days spread out between the end of March and December 2011. The group of four artists will initially meet for about three consecutive days at the end of March. This meeting will be arranged by the County Arts Offices. From this point on, the group will determine the remainder of the schedule themselves, with each successive meeting lasting anything from two to five days at a time. Applicant artists must be in a position to be able to commit to this schedule. A stipend of €1,000 will be provided to each of the four participating artists and a additional small materials budget is available to develop work over the residency. - Applications must be submitted before the stated deadline.
