Plan Ireland will bring the unique ‘Through a Girl’s Eyes’ photo exhibition to Sligo on Tuesday 15th February 2011. In conjunction with the exhibition, Plan Ireland is calling on local photographers to submit images of Sligo representing daily life with a special focus on the lives of children. The winning entry will receive a fantastic prize and will be displayed at the exhibition. The ‘Through a Girl’s Eyes’ photo exhibition is a series of beautiful and thought provoking images, many of them captured by girls living in big cities in the developing world. Mike Mansfield, Sponsor Relations Manager with Plan Ireland said: “The images provide us with a glimpse into the lives of the poorest children in the world and how they cope with the hardships they face.” A day in your life
The images focus on the experience of young girls whose lives are vastly different to those in developed countries such as Ireland. For this reason, Plan Ireland would like to contrast the images with photographs taken by local photographers in Sligo. Mike Mansfield added: “We want to juxtapose images of the lives of young people in Sligo with those of young people in cities of the developing world that have seen great poverty and disaster such as Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Port au Prince in Haiti. The remarkable thing is that the images are far from being sad as most are uplifting and a real celebration of childhood”. The submitted photographs will be entered into a competition and the winning photographer will receive a top of the range colour printer, courtesy of Epson. The winning entry will be presented on February 15th at Plan Ireland’s ‘Through a Girl’s Eyes’ exhibition and Supporter Evening in Sligo Park Hotel. Send your picture as a jpg to
