Cinema-lovers in Leitrim have much to look forward to this coming February. Cinema North West’s ‘New Roots’ film festival will see a selection of films being screened free-of-charge in Cinema North West’s cinemobile in towns across Leitrim County.
Cinema North West warmly invites you to join them for the Press Launch of the New Roots film festival in the Dock Arts Centre, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim on Tuesday, 25 January from 6 – 8pm. The festival will be launched by Hans Wieland, board member of Cinema North West, manager of The Organic Centre in Rossinver and long-time settled immigrant in the North West. Light refreshments will be served. Cinema North West’s ‘New Roots’ film festival aims to screen entertaining films that reflect Leitrim’s many cultures, races and religions, to be enjoyed by newcomers, minority groups and those who have been deeply rooted here for generations.
The ‘New Roots’ festival will take place in the following towns across Leitrim during the first three weekends of February; Manorhamilton (Feb. 4th – 6th), Ballinamore (Feb. 11th – 13th) and Carrick-on-Shannon (Feb. 18th – 20th). Screenings include a wide variety of films to suit all audiences, including Martin Scorsese films ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’ and ‘Kundun’, Irish film-maker Áine O’Brien’s 2006 film ‘Here to Stay’ about the human-side of migration in Ireland and Speaking on behalf of Cinema North West, Programme Director Nóirín Hennessy commented, ‘Cinema North West is delighted to announce this new film festival, celebrating the many different cultures, countries and creeds which form part of Leitrim’s society today. We’re especially delighted to offer these screenings free-of-charge and encourage young-and-old to ensure they don’t miss this great opportunity to see some wonderful films.’
