Galway can expect “significant further investment” from multinational companies this year, because of improved transport infrastructure and skilled workers, the new President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland.
Gerard Kilcommins – who is head of Medtronic, one of the biggest employers in Galway – said the region as a whole is extremely well-placed to attract new companies, as well as generate additional investment in existing multinationals.
As the American Chamber’s new President, Mr Kilcommins now represents 600 US multinationals and their 100,000 employees.
He told the Connacht Tribune: “Galway has a lot going for it, and in the West in general, there are 70 US multinationals. There is a very vibrant medical technology sector and a vibrant ICT (Information, Communications & Technology) sector. In terms of industries that we want to attract, there are already great examples in Galway that are performing well.
“If we can continue in terms of the advantages we have, I would expect to see significant further investment and development in the whole multinational sector here.
“Existing companies are enhancing their presence here and new companies are coming to Galway, that’s all positive and I hope it will continue," he said,
