Special Olympics M.D. and Mayo-native Mary Davis to launch Network Mayo opening event. Westport, County Mayo – 12th January 2011. In keeping with their 2011 theme, entitled ‘Inspiring Innovation’, Network Mayo are proud to confirm Mary Davis, Managing Director of the Special Olympics (Europe / Eurasia) as their launch A native of County Mayo, Mary Davis is the former CEO of the Special Olympics Ireland, serving as Chief Executive Officer for the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games prior to this. Well-recognised for her contribution to society, Mary serves in several additional capacities outside of the Special Olympics; she is currently the Chair of the Taskforce on Active Citizenship, as well as chairing the North South Consultative Forum on behalf of the Government. In November 2004, Mary was appointed to serve on the Council of State of Ireland by President Mary McAleese. Speaking on behalf of Network Mayo, incoming President Olwen Dawe says “we are absolutely honoured to have Mary launch our programme for 2011. I contacted her specifically because I felt she was such a perfect fit for our theme and its aspirations for the year ahead. Mary is an extremely experienced and inspiring person – we can learn much from her story not simply because of her achievements and recognition, but the challenges and mindset obstacles she has overcome during the course of her career”. Network Mayo are hoping to provide current and prospective members, as well as the wider business community, with inspiration in the year ahead “I do genuinely believe people are open to examining the possibility of growth and innovation this year – we’re all thoroughly fed up of the doom and gloom – indigenous business and positivity is the way forward.
