Early Bird Ticket sales for Sligo Live Sessions are buzzing and are well up on other years, according to the organisers. Stocks of early bird tickets are running low and the tickets will revert to full price on August 31st. The weekend ticket covering all events will go from €75 to €80 and Mary Chapin Carpenter tickets will go from the amazing early bird price of €25 to a still modest €30. Tickets for The Stranglers will be launched at a recession busting €30 on Friday next, August 27th. The young Irish Twins, Heathers, who sing on the Failte Ireland ad will perform as special guests with The Stranglers. “All the signs are that Sligo Live Sessions will exceed other years in terms of the volume of people attending the five day event,” said Rory O Connor, Festival Executive Director. “Again this year the majority of sales are coming from people outside Sligo and it certainly seems as if increased focus from Failte Ireland on Sligo Live Sessions and the northwest capital has resulted in huge interest in this year’s festival. We have had enquiries from all around the world”. Mr. O’Connor added. Rory McCarthy, Product Development Officer for Fáilte Ireland said “Sligo Live Sessions is a key festival in the North West and offers a unique programme which draws on the vibrant musical tradition of the area. The visitors that are motivated to come to the area for the festival are vital in terms of generating bednights and spend in the area, particularly at what is generally a quiet time of year. We are delighted that the festival has grown significantly since 2005 and that growth looks set to continue this year” Sligo Live had one of the largest increases in visitor numbers of any festival in Ireland last year. The event which has marketed Sligo over the past six years in a way never seen before, has increased awareness of Sligo as a music venue and has influenced other organisations in using Sligo as a location for festivals and large events.
