GroundWorks Studios opens its doors for National Heritage Week

As part of National Heritage Week 2010 ( 21st to 29th August), GroundWorks Studios, Lyrr Building , Mervue, will be opening its doors to the public 9.30 am – 5.30 pm daily. A major feature of the week will be the hosting of workshops in traditional craft skills, including patchwork, celtic reed work, embroidery, feltmaking, handbuilt ceramics and wheel thrown ceramics. Most of the workshops run 26th to 29th August. Please phone the contact number below.

Groundwork Studios

‘GroundWorks Studios’ provides facilities for emerging artists in a contemporary, innovative and vibrant surrounding.  Building on Galway ’s rich cultural traditions, GroundWorks Studios is a centre for creative excellence in the applied arts, contributing significantly to the development of social, educational and economical opportunities in the city and county.   
Fostering strong links with GMIT Art & Design Department, Groundworks Studios provides incubation units/spaces for recent Graduates, and assistance in the realization of their artistic and entrepreneurial ambitions in the field of ceramics and textiles. We also aim to develop the culture of Applied Arts in Galway and West of Ireland in today’s economically competitive climate.
 
National Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the council of Europe and European Union. In Ireland , Heritage Week is co-ordinated by the Heritage Council in conjunction with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government with support from the Office of Public Works and Failte Ireland .
