A hotel located in surfing beach Strandhill, in Sligo has been voted the thirteenth best place to stay in the world, according to a survey by holidaymakers on the travel resource website Tripadvisor.

The Strandhill Lodge and Suites was among just three Irish hotels which made the top 25 Travellers' Choice Hotel worldwide. In what is a positive boost to the local hospitality sector, the hotel, which opened last year, has received top marks on the website with guests complimenting the 'excellent, friendly service' and 'great value comfort'.

One guest from Liverpool commented: "The Strandhill Lodge and Suites is a marvellous place to stay, great hotel and excellent, friendly service. I have now stayed there on several occasions this year, due to business commitments in the area and it really has become a home from home."

Another customer from Southwest USA said: "Top Notch! This is the perfect place to stay in the Sligo area. I liked everything about it. Our host and hostesses were perfect in every way. David Mccoy, the manager, is very knowledgeable of the area and of Ireland in general. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Strandhill Lodge and Suites again, in fact I hope I do...the entire county of Sligo has a magic about it and there is so much to see.'

The hotel, owned by Damien and Mary Henry, has 18 large and single delux rooms, three suites and one selfcontained apartment.
