A local school has received a top national award for their website. Galway Educate Together, which is located on the Thomas Hynes Road in Newcastle, received the ‘Best School Website’ Award at the recent Eircom Junior Spiders Web Awards. The multi-denominational school fought off competition from schools around the country for the prize to bag the prize, which was awarded for their quirky and informative website at www.getns.ie. Responding to the news, a spokesperson for the school said they were “absolutely delighted” with the news. “It is a massive boost for our school and we feel it is a just reward for the huge efforts put in by our pupils and staff.” Launched in 2009, the Junior Spider Awards is aimed at students at primary and post primary school level and aims to acknowledge the innovation amongst web creators in schools and provide an exciting programme that will encourage teachers/students to further develop their technology skills in web design. The awards also encourage the use of the Internet to teach subjects on the curriculum and act as a catalyst for those students who wish to pursue a career in this sector by providing access to influential business executives.
