Carrick on Shannon to welcome DAVID MC WILLIAMS |

Almost three years ago, economist & journalist David McWilliams addressed over 200 local business people in Carrick on Shannon. Much has changed in those three years and Carrick on Shannon Chamber supported by Role Skillnet and Leitrim County Council felt it fitting to invite David back to give a fresh, realistic yet positive perspective on how small businesses can survive and thrive in challenging times. David returns to Carrick on Shannon on Friday December 2nd - just days before Budget 2012; the event promises to be a not to be missed highlight in the business calendar. The lunch and networking event in The Bush Hotel costs just €20 including lunch. Gerry Faughnan, President, Carrick on Shannon Chamber of Commerce announcing the event set the scene, ‘like many small towns, we face many challenges, not least recent job losses and uncertainty in Bank of America, but we are working hard to energise the area by bringing together over 120 businesses as part of the My Carrick, your Carrick on Shannon marketing campaign. David’s insights in February 2009 were compelling and despite confronting tough times, the resilience of the local business sector has been so encouraging.’ Jackie Maguire, County Manager, Leitrim County Council emphasised how much Carrick on Shannon has progressed in the last three years -‘Carrick on Shannon has despite the challenges of the last number of years continued to maintain is well established fresh and vibrant identity thanks to the tremendous efforts by all stakeholders in the Town. This joint working which secured the Town’s Gold Award in the Entente Florale continues to be harnessed through the preparation of what is going to be probably the most important vision and forward plan ever prepared for the town – Carrick on Shannon 2020. Through this visioning exercise I am confident that the Town will be positioned to maintain its recognized edge nationally, to build on its success of the last 10 years and to be ready to avail fully of the future upturn that will inevitably come’. The event gives business people an important opportunity to meet and network with each other, a key priority for event co-funder Role Skillnet. Terry Casey, Network Manager is looking forward to bringing a large number of businesses together – ‘while over 200 attended the 2009 event, we really hope business people get behind this event. It is so good to take a little time out to look at the bigger picture – David has proven he connects with SMEs and his foresight gives us valuable commercial food for thought’.
