ToastmastersSince 1924, Toastmasters International has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience. Their network of clubs and their learn-by-doing program are sure to help you become a better speaker and leader.

On November 14th in the Glasshouse Hotel, Sligo members of the public are invited to attend the monthly toastmasters meeting which will include ‘Have a Little System’, a half hour evaluation workshop with Mary Talbot.

The workshop will outline how to give and receive an evaluation in a spirit of helpfulness.  Mary is recognised internationally for her skills in this area and will share her expert knowledge with Sligo and Inishfree Clubs and guests.  She will evaluate a test speech and discuss the process followed.  Not only will she give pointers on how to constructively evaluate a speech, she will help us learn how do present it in a concise two minute evaluation.  This workshop will be in addition to the normal business of the meeting.

Mary Talbot joined Toastmasters in 1976 where she was a member in Dun Laoghaire Club.  She tells us about her journey: ‘Once I got my nerves under control I served in most roles in the club before becoming Area Governor in 1981. In 1985 I became Governor of District 71 and was lucky enough to be in Columbus, Ohio representing the District when Marie Pyne from the Ennis Club won the World Championship of Public Speaking. A proud moment indeed. On the communication side I achieved ATM gold.  I moved from Dublin to Donegal in 1990 and I joined the Sligo club when it started in 1998.’
