This October, Year of Craft have a multitude of craft events from talks and workshops to exhibitions and festivals happening throughout Ireland in celebration of Year of Craft 2011. The following are some of the craft events taking place; The Way Home Seven of The Ceardlann Craft Workers will present their literal or metaphorical interpretations of the theme ‘The Way Home’. It will be an exciting Mixed Media Exhibition of Ceramic, Paint, Glass, Textile and Print Works. Random Shuffle 2 A combination of woven, embroidery, printed and ceramic crafts products. To highlight the skill and talent of the local craft artists in Galway to the general public. This exhibition will consist of a broad range of work catering for the fashion, interior and fine craft market. The object of this event is to enable the artists to work collectively and draw on each others skills and an opportunity for exposure to the wider community. This will be a showcase of current work by new emerging artists/crafts individuals in Galway. 3x2: An Exhibition of Contemporary Clay. This exhibition aims to challenge conventional thinking behind the practice and exhibit modes of contemporary ceramics. As part of Ireland’s Year of Craft, it will reflect the diversity and excitement of contemporary craft practice and importantly, assist in securing an elevated place for ceramics in the national consciousness. Other events include the Launch of Learn.Craft.Design. This new digital craft learning resource, that supports learning through and about craft for children of all ages, will be launched by the Crafts Council of Ireland on the 19th October in Galway City Museum during Baboró International Arts Festival for Children. An exhibition of Ceramic Sculpture by Christy Keeney will take place in The Cat & The Moon, Sligo during the CraftFest Northwest festival from 3rd - 24th November 2011. There will also be an exhibition of Felt & Silk Wallhangings by Astrid Tomrop Hofmann in Source, Sligo. This exhibition will run from Thursday 3rd of November to Thursday 24th November.
