As part of Mayo Ideas Week and under the CISNET project, a conference entitled “Expanding the Creative Potential of County Mayo” is being held on Wednesday 21st September at 10am in Pontoon Bridge Hotel, Pontoon, Co. Mayo. This event is open to the public, attracting digital media professionals, visual artists, writers and musicians and those with a interest in supporting the creative sector. Themes for the event include: - The global picture, where the sector is going and where the opportunities are;
- The interdisciplinary nature of success and integrating people and companies to build successful projects;
- Building networks to support and develop local potential;
- Potential cross sectoral linkages between creative and economic sectors.
The draft plan for the event is as follows: - 10.00 – 10.15 Welcome Address – Peter Hynes, County Manager, Mayo County Council
- 10.15 – 10.45 The global picture – Where the sector is going and where the opportunities are Páraic Breathnach, Director, Galway Arts Centre
- 10.45 – 11.15 The Interdisciplinary Nature of Success Grainne Millar – Head of Cultural Development, Temple Bar Cultural Trust
- 11.15 – 12.00 Panel Discussion – Chair: Cillian Fennell, Director, Stillwater Communications
- 12.00 – 12.15 Mining for Stories in Mayo – Introduction to Breakout / Brainstorming Session Cilian Fennell – Stillwater Communications
- 12.15 – 1.00 Audience break into groups to look at the creative potential of Mayo, our people, our history, our environment etc. to look at potential cross sectoral opportunities and to identify potential project ideas – facilitated by Cillian Fennell
- 1.00 – 2.00 Networking Buffet Lunch
- 2.00 – 2.30 Funding Opportunities for the Creative Industries – Carl James, The European Consulting Company, Leeds
- 2.30 – 3.00 Introduction / Launch of new Visual Arts Smartphone App developed in Mayo (with support from the CISNET project)
