Westport to host its first food festival

Westport food festivalWESTPORT is already home to a music festival, an arts festival, adventure festival and some of the country’s finest food and hospitality. Now, people can truly savour the best of Westport with the introduction of its first-ever food festival on the 2nd-4th September.


The festival programme incorporates both day and evening events in and around chosen venues across Westport Town, Murrisk and the Quays with activities to suit all demographics, ages and palates.

Festival highlights include:

  • A ‘Seafood Summit’ at the top of Croagh Patrick with refreshments, mussels and oysters sampling.
  • A ‘Come Dine with Me’ dinner at the Wyatt Hotel featuring Westport’s finest chefs
  • A Foodie Fringe market by local food producers incorporating food demos and five-minute talks on various topics such as: cooking with unusual meat cuts; rearing black face sheep; baking for celiacs, how to grow and bake your own mussels and making perfect ‘garage beer’.
  • Going the Gourmet Greenway: A cycle from Mulranny to Westport along the Great Western Greenway and including visits to local producers on its route. The tour includes breakfast at Mulranny Park Hotel, followed by pit stops to Sean Kelly’s award-winning black pudding in Newport, Padraic Gannon’s seafood and sampling Carrowholly cheeses.
  • “Food Village” on the mall – celebrate and sample the best the Westport Food Festival has to offer. Operating all day Saturday and including a kiddies’s zone offering story-telling, face-painting and a cook out by the local Boy Scouts.
  • Mushroom foraging in Knockranny Woods
  • Wine-tasting events and cocktail-making competitions
  • Westport Dessert Competition (sponsored by Westport Tourism)
  • Cookery Demo’s with renowned Chefs
