Seven Wonders of the West Shortlist

Print

Over 1,000 nominations have been received in the LookWest.ie campaign to find the ‘Seven Wonders of the West’. The official short list of seven nominees in each of the Western Region’s seven counties is below. the Western Development Commission’s (WDC) online guide to living and working in the West. Members of the general public can now vote for their choice of the final seven from that official shortlist here.

The shortlist includes many iconic Western sites such as The Burren in Clare, Croagh Patrick in Mayo and Lough Key and its Islands in Roscommon. We were particularly taken with some of the more colourful nominations like Nancy’s Pub in Donegal and Surfing on Strandhill in Sligo and it came as no surprise to see that unique experiences like Galway Arts Festival and the Organic Centre in Leitrim also feature as favourites.

Some of the social media responses for the campaign has been incredible, 'a fantastic opportunity to take a virtual holiday in the West'. We know it will be a difficult choice for people to select just one wonder from the shortlist of seven in each county, but we are calling on everybody to get voting to make sure their favourite place, experience or festival is officially named as one of the Seven Wonders of the West.

All entrants in the nomination phase were entered into a draw to win a prize and Fidelma Mc Cann from Co. Leitrim has won the €250 voucher from Kennys.ie, Galway’s world-famous bookshop, while Pauline Cunningham from Co. Roscommon has won two return tickets to the UK with bmibaby.com in association with Ireland West Airport Knock.

Everybody who votes for their favourite from the shortlist, will also be entered into a draw to win an Apple iPad and an additional two return tickets to the UK from Ireland West Airport.
