The Model, home of The Niland Collection, reopens this Saturday,1st May with an exciting line up of events to welcome everyone back into the new building. Following an extensive redevelopment over the past two years the arts centre has increased in size by a third and will see it realise its potential as a flagship cultural centre in Ireland. The new Model is now home to a separate restaurant and coffee dock, a bookshop, a new gallery circuit on the first floor, a purpose built performance space, and nine truly impressive artist studios with enviable views of the region. The new galleries will be showcased for the first time this weekend for the reopening exhibition Dorm, which sees the work of twenty-two international artists collectives coming to Sligo. Events planned for this weekend include the exhibition opening for Dorm, a public sleep over project, critical runs with artist Thierry Geoffroy, screenings, an archive, and performances by a number of the visiting artists collectives. The Model¹s new performance space will also be showcased this weekend as it hosts ŒFresh Air with Donal Dineen¹ introducing the freshest sounds with live sets by some of the freshest Irish soundmakers working today including Patrick Kelleher, School Tour, Hunter Gatherer and CatScars. As a cultural resource for the region, The Model will continue to bring international standard exhibitions to Sligo, and host a variety of outstanding musical events each year.
