Mayo Association Dublin's Summer BBQ

The Mayo Association in Dublin’s annual Summer BBQ to encourage new members will take place on Thursday evening 16th July in the capital.

The social evening will take place from 7pm in the Sub Lounge Bar on Tara Street (formerly O’Reilly’s) and it is particularly aimed at those Mayo people working or living in Dublin who haven’t had the opportunity yet of joining Mhuintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliatha.

The BBQ and drinks will be very informal and based on last summer’s event – a large number of Mayo people are expected. The Sub Lounge Bar is managed by Charlestown man Padraig Murray who has kindly sponsored the BBQ.

The Mayo Association in the capital is one of the best-supported and active county associations in the country. It celebrated its 100th birthday in 2006 and enjoys a membership of in excess of 500 Mayo people.  One of the highlights in their annual calendar is the Mayo Person of the Year and Mheithal award dinner. It is held each February and the night is one of the social highlights of the year. There is also an annual business lunch and a race night every November. Added to that, there are many other events throughout the year which give Mayo people in Dublin a great opportunity to meet up with each other and network.  The Association is also involved in charitable work and much of the money it raises is donated to Mayo charities and worthy causes in the county.

The Association’s new chairperson is Sean Reid from Charlestown who took over at the helm following this year’s AGM in April. The secretary is Francis O’Malley from Newport and Treasurer is Carmel Conlon (Heaney) from Bohola. The President of Mhuintir Mhaigheo Atha Cliatha is Padraig Jordan from Castlebar who currently holds the chain of office.  Other committee members of the association come from the four corners of the county.

In a bid to encourage new members the barbeque evening promises to be a very enjoyable sociable occasion and anyone who is interested in attending should come along. For further information contact John Geary on (087) 8217368 or visit the website.
